Hinckley Pilot 35

Sailing Yachts

Has anyone repaired leaking portholes on the custom pilot? I am just wondering what the construction is before I remove the frame and take a look. I am referring to the large portholes in the main salon.

Thank you,

Morning Anne,

No help here but I too am a recent owner of a custom - just posted some questions.  I will probably be doing something with the port lights also so please keep in touch.  I'm not sure if the painter will want that done before he gets to work but I'll find out in a few weeks.

Eric

Hi Eric,

We have done one porthole. I called the yard and asked them. The fasteners just go into the fiberglass which is tapped and threaded. If they are stripped you fill them with a dense epoxy/filler mix and the drill and re tap. They just use rubber gasket. We are using butyl tape. I can let you know how that works as we are still in the process of tightening the fasteners.

Sounds like you are having your boat painted. Where are you located?

Good Morning Anne,

I quite agree with your use of butyl tape. Yes, I'm having the boat painted.  I hope to have her ready to go for the spring.  I'm in Annapolis, MD and will follow your progress as you folks continue.

Do you have much work to do on your custom>
