Coaming removal for refinishing

I am going to remove my coamings this fall to refinish and re-bed them.  It seems that no matter how well I varnish them water sneaks in from behind and lifts the varnish on the edges.  I am planning to strip, sand and seal with penetrating epoxy, then varnish.  Has anyone done this?  I worry about damaging them after been in place for almost 45 years.  If you have experience with this I would be very interested in your story.

Thanks,

Michael

Audra and Willow battle in 2011 Constellation Cup

Willow and Audra just completed his year's USS Constellation Cup in Baltimore in what has become somewhat of a match race series. The series is now split with one win each. Audra and Willow placed 3rd and 4th in the Full Keel class and 4th and 5th overall in the combined Full Keel and Fin Keel Pursuit race.   With winds gusting close to 40 mph the fin keel boats didn't have much of a chance against their more traditional sisters. USS Constellation Cup

Hi All,

For those Pilot skippers in the Chesapeake please consider sailing in the USS Constellation Cup on October 16th this year. There are presently 2 Pilots entered and one more makes it a class. There is a terrific party on board the ship afterwards to benefit the Constellation and the Living Classrooms Foundation. Thanks for the support Sea Angel

Bonnie, Thank you so much for supporting us in the USS Consellation Cup. The Cup is a fundraising race for the Living Classrooms Foundation which runs the last all sail warship built by the US Navy, the USS Constellation. It means a lot to us to have your support. It would be grat to have some Chesapeake are pilots to come over to Baltimore for the race. Perhaps it can be a local annual rendezvous?

Thanks and best wishes,

Michael Brassert
